My daughter is at the age where little covered spaces and tents are the kind of architecture she loves. When we were in Seattle we almost bought her a hanging fabric tent from Haba. It was incredibly cool but cost $250 on sale so we passed. I was also concerned about the space it would take up in her room.
When we returned home I saw a perfect spot for a little tent. There is an odd corner in P's room that's not utilized because it's a small space between the exterior wall with the window and the book case. I thought it would be a good hiding or reading space so I made her a tent caste to fit perfect. The best part was picking out the fabric with P. The pink polka dots with the sheer shimmering fabric was all her choice. The most frustrating part was D adding in his opinions. He said it couldn't be called a castle if the roof didn't slope. He was right. It looked much better with the sloped roof.
For a more whimsical feel we added the birds P and I made out of egg cartons. Their bodies are made out of two parts of the egg carton where the eggs sit. The beak is made out of the rising peaks in the egg cartons. P painted them, which she loved, and we added feathers.
The little space has been a hit with P. She is looking forward to having friends over to see it.
